MENUE: Before (Introduction) && During && After (Conclusion) && Images && Bibliography .

It all started on the quiet evening of April 14th, 1912. The sound of heavy water brushing off the sides of the British Luxury Liner, Titanic, as the ship was travelling at high speed, and giggles from passengers on board, was all that existed in the middle of the ocean. However, at 11:40pm, the ship stopped when it unexpectedly crashed into an iceberg. Many passengers didn’t realize what had happened until later on because many first class passengers were asleep. Yet, for those who heard the noise of collision, they didn’t think the sound was alarming at all. When they went to check on the deck, it was quiet and orderly, however, the front of the ship was sinking. “I was fast asleep when the ship hit the iceberg,” says Frank Korun, a passenger from third class. “and so were the rest in my room. I got up and dressed in the suit I have on and my little girl put on her dress. I put on life preserver and the rest of our party did the same. It was about 11 o’clock when someone woke us up. When we got to the top, I could see that the forward end of the boat was sinking down and that there was quite a decline that way…” Passengers were questioning crew members and officers, trying to squeeze out as much information as possible from as many as they could, yet the only replies they received were, “Don’t worry, there is no danger,” or, “everything is fine.” “I felt a sudden quiver running under me,” says Elizabeth Shutes, 40, governess to 19 year old Margaret Graham who was travelling on the Titanic. Startled by the strangeness and shivering motion, she said she thought something was very wrong. .
One by one, crew members and officers began loading the lifeboats with first class mothers and children first, as they kept
receiving news that was worse than before. Clearly, the ship was sinking, and there was nothing to prevent it, but to start
evacuating once they realized the ship was sinking. The first boats hadn’t even been full when they departed since no
one comprehended the severity of the crash.
“Some of the passengers fought with such desperation to get into the boats, that the officers shot them, and their
bodies fell into the ocean,” said Dr. Washington Dodge of San Francisco, a first cabin passenger who was already safely
put into a lifeboat when he saw it happen.
